I’m trying to piece together images and illustrations that frankly don’t belong together. I’m especially focusing on creating illustrations that look extremely out of place in their given context, but make interesting commentary through humor.

1. Megaman vs. the Trix Rabbit.

2. My friend Jake Child’s book. This was more for fun, and to poke fun at a friend. Plus finding and peeling his picture off something was challenging. The book title was his idea. It’s very out of place given the context of the book. I think many people will be startled at first when reading the title, but the subtitle clarifies and adds further questions. Building confusion for curiosity is an excellent marketing tool, perhaps he should write the book.

3. The Fellowship of the Marriott Library - Frodo seems to think Orcs would more pleasant than the University campus.

I started with sketches and then started playing around in photo shop. After little success with social commentary and struggling to find images that suited my sketches, I finally decided to just do something funny. There’s the black and white sketch called Shame, which made me think it might be fun to fill it with a collage of things I’m “secretly” ashamed of. For instance, I am utterly addicted to Ben & Jerry’s. Every one has things that they like that shouldn’t be embarrassed about but we all are!

Also, all three pieces, were based off the Georg Baselitz’s etchings. Because his art is a little rough, I tried to keep my drawings rough as well. I saw that he had done several etchings and decided to do a blue ink wash on one. Then on the other I did some water color and image adjustments. Then lastly the black and white was again just a good cut out looking image..

well, I guess we’ll get to explain our rationale in class…

This image is composed of photos which describe a bunny sculpture that has been at my parents house for 2 decades. The bunny was modeled after a deceased pet dwarf rabbit named “Bubba” whom I don’t recall ever meeting, but I always recalled the countenance of this sculpture to be a bit creepy. It’s one of those sculptures where it feels like its watching you, and that’s stayed with me from the time I was a small boy, up until now.
